Sanamacha Chanu, Vinka bag gold at Adriatic Pearl Youth Boxing Tournament
In other bouts, India also secured two silver medals and four bronze medals
India's gold rush continued at the 30th Adriatic Pearl boxing tournament in Budva, Montenegro on Sunday as Sanamcha Chanu (75kg) and Vinka (60kg) bagged gold medals in their respective weight categories.
Chanu got the better of her Indian compatriot Raj Sahiba in the final bout while Vinka defeated Kiper Kristina of Moldova to clinch the top spot. India, thus, now have three gold medals in their tally from the competition.
Chanu had earlier beaten Sokhiba Ruzmetova from Uzbekistan by a unanimous 5-0 decision to set up an all-Indian final against Sahiba. Vinka, meanwhile, outclassed her Finnish opponent Suvi Tujula with a series of punches which led to the referee halting the match in the second round.
Incidentally, Chanu and Vinka, had earlier clinched the gold medal at the 2019 Asian Youth Boxing Championships in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
In other bouts, India also secured two silver medals and four bronze, on the second day. Apart from Raj Sahiba, Gitika (48 kg) also had to settle for silver while Neha (54 kg) and Preeti (57 kg) won bronze.
In the men's section, Jugnoo (+91 kg) and Priyanshu (49 kg) settled for the bronze medals.
Earlier, on Saturday, Asian junior champion Alfiya Pathan (+81kg), bagged the first gold medal for India at the event as she beat Daria Kozorev of Moldova 5-0.
Indian youth boxing contingent has put up a strong show and are set to finish with at least 12 medals from the event.
