The life of Indian sports legends like Milkha Singh, Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni are well known depictions on the silver screen and now shuttler Saina Nehwal is set to join the bandwagon with a biopic on her life and career.
Saina unveiled the first-look poster of the Parineeti Chopra-starrer on her social media on Tuesday.
"Check out the first look of my biopic #Saina. Best wishes to the team. In cinemas on 26th March," Nehwal said on Instagram.
The biopic will capture the journey of the London 2012 bronze medallist and is named 'Saina'. It is directed by Amole Gupte and co-produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Sujay Jairaj and Rashesh Shah under the banner of T-Series and Front Foot Pictures.
The movie was initially scheduled to release on September 2020, but owing to the Covid-19 situation across the country, it was delayed. The film will hit the theaters on March 26.
Parineeti Chopra, who essays Saina's role in the film, was mentored and trained by Saina herself to familiarise her with aspects of the sport. Parineeti even suffered an injury while training for the film but recovered to complete shooting.
Filmfare award-winning actor Manav Kaul will be reprising the role of ace badminton player Pullela Gopichand, who coached Saina Nehwal throughout the majority of her career.
The ace Indian shuttler was the first Indian female shuttle and only the second Indian after Prakash Padukone to achieve the No.1 ranking.
The three-time Olympian is also the lone Indian to win at least a medal in every major BWF major individual tournament.
