Indian men's doubles pair of Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan stunned second seeds Édouard Roger-Vasselin and Łukasz Kubot in the Round of 16 clash at the Halle Open on Wednesday.

The Indian pair won 7-6(11), 6-4 in an hour and 33 minutes to advance to the quarterfinals of the ATP 500 grasscourt event. They will play the winner of the match between Luke Saville-Jordan Thompson and Joran Vliegen-Sander Gille next.

Bopanna and Sharan, still in contention for Tokyo 2020, paired up for the Halle Open for the first time since the ATP 250 hard-court tournament in Stockholm back in October 2019.

The Indian pair were knocked out in the first round of the Stockholm Open after registering a loss against Dominic Inglot and Austin Krajick in straight sets.

Bopanna is currently ranked 38th in men's doubles while his partner Sharan is at the 75th spot. They are banking on their combined ranking to help them secure a spot for Tokyo 2020.

Each country will be eligible to send a maximum of two doubles team for the Games.

The National Federations have been given the deadline of June 22 to submit the doubles nominations while the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) have the last date of July 5 to submit the entry forms to the Tokyo 2020 organising committee.
