Badminton mixed doubles Tokyo 2020 preview, new champions to be crowned in the badminton mixed doubles.

What’s happening?

It is the final day of competition for the mixed doubles pairs with the bronze medal match being decided in the morning session from 9am to 12:30pm (local) and the gold medal match the highlight of the evening session which gets underway at 3:30pm (local).

The last eight women's singles players will also be vying for a spot in the semi-finals and the men's doubles semi-finals will determine who will progress for a shot at the gold medal tomorrow.

Who should I expect to see?
---------------------------

We are certain to see new mixed doubles champions crowned with Rio 2016 gold medallists Liliyana Natsir and Tontowi Ahmad not competing in Japan following Natsir's retirement.

The People's Republic of China will regain their title from London 2012 with two-time and current reigning world champions Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong taking on compatriots Wang Yi Lyu and Huang Dong Ping in the final.

Home favourites WATANABE Yuta and HIGASHINO Arisa are hoping to medal at their home Olympics taking on Hong Kong China's duo of Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet in the bronze-medal match. WATANABE is one of a few players who is targeting a medal in both the mixed and men's doubles events, where he partners ENDO Hiroyuki.
