Vinesh Phogat will headline the Indian wrestling contingent at the Poland Open tournament, starting from Tuesday in Warsaw.

The Asian Games and Commonwealth Games gold-medallist has already earned a quota place for next month’s Tokyo Olympics and is considered one of the favourites for an Olympic medal in the 53kg category.

The 26-year-old Vinesh Phogat is unbeaten in 2021, having won golds at the Ukraine Wrestlers Memorial, the Matteo Pellicone series and the Asian Championships.

The Poland Open will offer Vinesh an opportunity to get more match practice ahead of the Olympics.

Joining Vinesh Phogat in Poland will be two other Tokyo-bound wrestlers Ravi Kumar Dahiya (61kg) and Anshu Malik (57kg), both of whom are set to make their Olympic debuts in Tokyo.

Ravi Dahiya earned his Tokyo spot at the 2019 World Championships in the 57kg category but will compete in the 61kg at the Poland Open.  Deepak Punia will also be in action in the 86kg.

Anshu Malik, who qualified for the Tokyo Olympics with a silver in the Asian qualifiers in April, will look to impress once again.

Her good friend Sonam Malik (62kg), who has also qualified for the Olympics, has opted to sit out the Poland Open as she is nursing a knee injury she sustained at the Asian qualifiers.
