Nischal downs two Tokyo 2020-bound shooters in second Indian Women's 50m rifle 3P trials
The Haryana-born shooter avenged her T1 trials loss to Tejaswini Sawant with a determined performance in T2
Haryana shooter Nischal edged past Tejaswini Sawant to win the T2 women's 50m rifle 3 position trials, at the Dr. Karni Singh shooting range in New Delhi on Tuesday.
She finished third in T1 trials earlier, but she made a strong comeback to hit 459.1 beating Sawant's score of 458.1.
Meanwhile, fellow Tokyo-bound shooter Anjum Moudgil came a distant third with 447.8. This is the second time in two days that she was defeated by Sawant.
Moudgil qualified for Tokyo 2020 by winning the silver medal in the 10m air rifle at the 2018 ISSF World Shooting Championships in Changwon, whereas Sawant earned her Olympic ticket after reaching the finals of the women's 50m rifle 3 position event at the 2019 Asian Shooting Championships in Doha.
Nischal performed well in the Indian shooting trials last year as well, winning the T2 in 2020 in the same event. The 16-year-old is fast emerging as a talent to watch out for.
The T1 trap trials also commenced on the same day. Asian Games silver medallist Lakshay Seoran and Rajeshwari Kumari are leading the charts in the men's and women's categories respectively after day one.
Whereas, Aakash Khushwaha and Kirti Gupta have their noses in front in the junior men's and women's sections.
