New Zealand kayaker Lisa Carrington wins second gold in space of 90 minutes
Lisa Carrington wins gold in the women's 500m double kayak event alongside New Zealand teammate Caitlin Regal, after winning the single 200m earlier in the day; Poland bag silver with one Hungarian boat pipping compatriots to bronze.
Just 90 minutes after winning gold in the women's single kayak 200m, Lisa Carrington jumped back in the boat to compete with Caitlin Regal in the 500m double kayak event. The New Zealanders won the race in style in a time of 1:35.785.
Poland's pair of Karolina Naja and Anna Pulawska followed up in silver medal position (1:36.753) with Hungary's Danuta Kozak and Dora Bodonyi pipping compatriots Tamara Csipes and Erika Medveczky to the bronze medal in times of 1:36.867 to 1:37.114, respectively.
Carrington, who now has three consecutive golds in the shorter 200m distance – at London 2012 and Rio 2016 as well as Tokyo 2020, adds the gold medal in the longer distance to her resume. She also has bronze from Rio 2016 in the K1 500m event. Carrington will go in two additional races tomorrow (Wednesday 4 August).
