Princepal Singh in NBA G League: Ignite’s full schedule and match times for India

The NBA G League season will officially start at the Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, in the USA from February 10.

The G League is the National Basketball Association or the NBA's official minor league. This season, the roster includes 18 teams in total, including the newly-formed NBA G League Ignite.

With India's Princepal Singh – an NBA India Academy graduate - joining Ignite for the season, the team's fortunes in the NBA G League will be of particular interest to Indian basketball fans.

Princepal Singh is only the fourth Indian prospect to be selected for a G League team after Satnam Singh, Palpreet Singh Brar and Amjyot Singh Gill. Satnam and Amjyot went on to feature for their respective G League teams but Palpreet never played.

“I am very excited. Just can’t wait to hit the court. I have heard a lot about the G-League and it’s a big deal for me," Princepal Singh told the Olympic Channel earlier.

“We have had two guys play in it before me, but I want to go a step beyond them and make it to the NBA roster,” the Indian hoopster added.

Princepal’s NBA G League Ignite team, coached by five-time NBA champion Brian Shaw, is a young developmental squad comprising elite NBA Draft prospects from around the world. A few veterans like Jarrett Jack and Amir Johnson are also in the roster to help mentor the youngsters.

Highly rated basketball talents like Jalen Green, Isaiah Todd and Daishen Nix of USA, Jonathan Kuminga of DR Congo and Philippines-born wonderkid Kai Sotto will be some of Princepal’s team-mates at Ignite this season.

With such cherry-picked basketball players at Ignite, Princepal will have to toil hard to get significant NBA G League playing time under his belt. But the experience and exposure is sure to have a positive impact on the 19-year-old’s career and NBA aspirations.

Apart from Ignite, all the other 17 G League teams are affiliated to NBA teams. Each team will play 15 games from February 10 to March 6 (March 7 in India). The top eight teams advance to the playoffs, which begin from March 8 and the season concludes with the final on March 11. 

The season tips off with Ignite, in their inaugural NBA G League campaign, facing off against Santa Cruz Warriors (affiliate team of six-time NBA champions Golden State Warriors) on February 10.
