NBA 2023-24: Denver Nuggets look to defend basketball crown - where to watch live

The NBA 2023-24 season, the 78th edition of the world’s top men's professional basketball league, began on October 24 last year and will conclude with the NBA finals in June.

A total of 30 teams - 15 each in the Eastern Conference and Western Conference - are competing in this National Basketball Association (NBA) season.

The top eight teams from each conference qualify for the NBA playoffs starting on April 20. While the top six are guaranteed a playoff spot, the teams that finish from seventh to 10th in each conference will enter the play-in tournament for the remaining two places in their groups before the playoffs.

Eastern Conference: Boston Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks, Cleveland Cavaliers, New York Knicks, Orlando Magic, Indiana Pacers, Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers, Chicago Bulls, Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Toronto Raptors, Charlotte Hornets, Detroit Pistons, Washington Wizards

Western Conference: Denver Nuggets, Oklahoma City Thunder, Minnesota Timberwolves, Los Angeles Clippers, New Orleans Pelicans, Sacramento Kings, Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, Utah Jazz, Memphis Grizzlies, Portland Trail Blazers, San Antonio Spurs

The top two teams from each conference will play conference finals in the second half of May. The conference champions will qualify for the NBA Finals starting on June 6, with the seventh and final game, if needed, scheduled for June 23. The winners will be handed the Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy.

Powered by two-time MVP Nikola Jokic, the Denver Nuggets defeated three-time champions Miami Heat for their maiden NBA title last season.

This year, the Nuggets began their title defence with a win over LeBron James’ Los Angeles Lakers in their Western Conference fixture. They went on to qualify for the playoffs.

The Lakers and Boston Celtics are the most successful teams in the NBA, boasting 17 titles each.

There was also the addition of the new in-season tournament this season which the Lakers won. The NBA All-Star Game, played in February, was won by the Eastern Conference, who triumphed 211–186 against the Western Conference.
