Morgane Osyssek-Reimer and Léo Saladino on Saturday (9 November) became the first French mixed pair to win the 41st Swiss Cup gymnastics event in Zürich, Switzerland.

The pair held off a challenge from the Swiss-Algerian duo of Christian Baumann and Kaylia Nemour, who finished in second place.

The competition follows a knock-out format, with the last two teams being eliminated after the first rotation and the bottom four after the second. Once the final four pairs are determined, scores are reset, and the top teams go head-to-head until a winner is crowned.

In the gold-medal round, Algerian Olympic gold medallist Nemour made a mistake on the uneven bars, which ultimately gave the French team a victory by just 1.35 points.

Osyssek-Reimer and Saladino scored 27.55 to claim the historic gold medal, with Baumann and Nemour settling for second place with 26.20. With the silver, two-time Olympian Baumann ended his career on a high on home soil.

The 17-year-old Nemour made history earlier this year, winning Algeria’s first women’s gymnastics gold medal at the Olympics with her win in the uneven bars. The gold medal was also a first for any gymnast from Africa.

Karina Schönmaier of Germany and Marco Macchiati of Italy won the bronze medal beating the Brazilian pair of Julia Soares and Caio Souza by just 0.975.
