India’s Praveen Chithravel is set to return to competition in the men’s triple jump event at the Monaco Diamond League 2023 scheduled to be held in the French principality on Friday.

The 22-year-old Praveen Chithravel, who will be making his Diamond League athletics debut, is returning following an injury that sidelined him from the Asian Athletics Championships earlier this month and the Florence Diamond League in June. He will be the only Indian in the fray in Monaco.
Praveen Chithravel has been in good form this season. He won a gold medal in each of the three competitions he participated in this year. It includes a national record-setting jump of 17.37m in Cuba in May, which met the qualifying standard for the World Athletics Championships to be held in August in Budapest, Hungary.
At the Monaco Diamond League, Chithravel will be up against Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist Hugues Fabrice Zango of Burkina Faso. Zango is also a two-time medal winner at the world championships.
Jaydon Hibbert of Jamaica, the reigning Under-20 champion, will also offer stiff competition. He has a season-best jump of 17.87m, the longest in the eight-man field in Monaco.
Americans Will Claye, a three-time Olympic medallist and four-time world championships medal winner, and two-time Olympic champion Christian Taylor, will also compete. The American duo, however, are yet to cross the 17m mark this season.
Athletes are awarded points based on their performances in each Diamond League leg and the top eight athletes in each event qualify for the Diamond League Finals later in the year. The winner of the final in each event wins a Diamond League trophy.
Reigning Olympic and world champion Pedro Pichardo of Portugal and Andy Díaz of Cuba, who won the Diamond League triple jump events in Doha and Florence, respectively, are skipping the Monaco leg.
