The 2023 FIS Alpine Ski World Championships wrap up on Sunday (19 February) with the men's slalom, one of the most unpredictable events in the sport.
The first eight World Cup races this seasons have had five different winners: Lucas Braathen and Henrik Kristoffersen of Norway have recorded two victories each, as has Daniel Yule of Switzerland. Another Swiss skier, Ramon Zenhaeusern, and France's Clement Noel took the remaining two events.
Norway's Sebastian Foss-Solevag took World Championships gold two years ago in Cortina d'Ampezzo, with Adrian Pertl of Austria and Kristoffersen grabbing silver and bronze, respectively.
Twelve months ago at Beijing 2022, Noel was crowned Olympic champion with Austrian Johannes Strolz (silver) and Foss-Solevag (bronze) completing the podium.
Find out below who are the likely medal contenders.
Men's slalom: Medal favourites
Henrik Kristoffersen (NOR): The three-time World Cup globe winner is the most decorated slalom skier in the field with 23 wins (49 podium) in the alpine elite series and a bronze medal at both Worlds (2021) and Winter Olympics (2014). This season he's won the events in Garmisch and Wengen, finishing second in Madonna di Campiglio.
Lucas Braathen (NOR): The 22-year-old leads the discipline's standings with two wins and three third places, but there are question marks about his fitness following recent appendicitis surgery.
Daniel Yule (SUI): The Swiss has been victorious twice this season (Madonna di Campiglio, Kitzbuhel) and finished third in Chamonix, the last event ahead of the Worlds.
Clement Noel (FRA): The Beijing 2022 gold medallist has recorded DNFs in half of the races he took part in (including the home races in Val d'Isere and Chamonix), but still managed to claim a victory (in the night race in Schladming) and a third place (Garmisch).
Ramon Zenhaeusern (SUI): The Swiss giant (2.02m tall) is the only top slalom skier who has completed all his races this season. He sits third in the World Cup standings with a second place and a win in the last two races.
Manuel Feller (AUT): The Austrian won silver six years ago in St. Moritz and has been one of the most consistent slalom skiers over the last three seasons (two wins, 10 podiums).
