Marco Odermatt was in a class of his own in Bormio, Italy, as he claimed his 11th career Super G victory - and fourth this season - in the Alpine skiing FIS World Cup on Friday (29 December).

Following a second-place finish in Thursday's downhill, the Swiss star delivered a masterclass performance on the ripply surface of the Stelvio track, finishing almost a second faster than Raphael Haaser's then-leading time.

Haaser held onto his runner-up position, with Alexander Aamodt Kilde securing the last spot on the podium, 1.31 seconds behind the winner.

Cyprien Sarrazin couldn't repeat yesterday's heroics and failed to finish the race after a strong start. The Frenchman was joined by local star Dominik Paris, who crashed out just after a few gates.

With this win, Odermatt overtakes Vincent Kriechmayr in the discipline's standings, with the Austrian finishing in fourth after winning the inaugural Super G in Val Gardena.

In the overall rankings, the Olympic champion extended his overall lead over Marco Schwarz, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in the Bormio downhill.

"[It was] another perfect Super G for me, nearly like last year. It was a great performance, I had a good plan in my mind, I skied smart where I had to and I pushed where I wanted to. It was perfect!," Odermatt told Eurosport after a special day for his team, with four Swiss athletes in the top 10.

The men's World Cup will resume on 6 January with Adelboden, Switzerland, hosting its iconic giant slalom.
