And then there were four.
The NCAA men's basketball tournament, known as March Madness, is reaching its zenith with just four teams left standing following the 'Elite Eight' round over the weekend.
Two top seeds - Purdue and UConn - punched their tickets to the tournament semifinals on Saturday, 6 April with convincing wins.
The Connecticut Huskies triumphed over Illinois 77-52 to continue their national title defence while a Zach Edey-led Purdue saw off Tennessee 72-66 to guarantee a Final Four appearance for the first time in 44 years.
Tournament 'Cinderella' NC State continued its fairytale run after bagging a surprise victory over Duke. The No.11 seed overcame a halftime deficit and outscored the Blue Devils 55-37 in the second half to secure the win and return to the Final Four for the first time since 1983.
Matching up against the Huskies will be West Region champion Alabama, who won 89-82 over Clemson to reach their first Final Four. The Crimson Tide previously saw off top-seeded North Carolina to get to the Elite Eight.
Both Final Four games will be staged in Glendale, Arizona with the winners advancing to the national championship game on Monday 8 April.
