World No.9 HS Prannoy secured his first badminton title in the men's singles since the US Open 2017 at the 2023 Malaysia Masters on Sunday (28 May).
The 30-year-old Indian needed one hour and 34 minutes to defeat Hong Yang Weng from People’s Republic of China in a thrilling three-set final (21-19, 13-21, 21-18).
Yamaguchi Akane of Japan celebrated her second victory this year in Kuala Lumpur, following her success at January's Malaysia Open. The two-time world champion and current world No.1 saw off Indonesia’s Gregoria Mariska Tungjung 21-17, 21-7 after just 34 minutes.
In both the women's and mens' doubles finals, the Republic of Korea emerged victorious over hosts Malaysia.
Baek Ha Na and Lee So He beat Tan Pearly and Thinaah 22-20, 8-21, 21-17 to clinch the women's doubles title, while Seo Seung Jae and Kang Min Hyuk claimed the men's doubles title a hard-fought battle against Man Wei Chong and Kai Wun Tee with a score of 21-15, 22-24, 21-19.
The mixed doubles title went to Thailand’s pair Dechapol Puavaranukro and Sapsiree Taerattanachai, who triumphed over China’s Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping in three games (16-21, 21-13, 21-18).
