The match-up to end all match-ups in freestyle wrestling brought together the United States' David Taylor and the Islamic Republic of Iran's Hassan Yazdani. Taylor won the bout beating Yazdani 4-3 in the men's 86kg freestyle wrestling in the very last seconds.

The world number-one and number-two were evenly matched but it was America's so-called 'Magic Man' who beat the 'Leopard of Juybar' to the Olympic crown.

In the first bronze-medal match, Artur Naifonov won out against Uzbekistan’s Javrail Shapiev. The ROC fighter came through a cagey contest to win 2-0 in the end.

Myles Amine from San Marino earned his nation's third-ever medal at an Olympic Games – all here at Tokyo 2020 – after beating India's Deepak Punia 4-2 in the second bronze-medal match. The 24-year-old's medal is added to trap shooter Alessandra Perilli's bronze and Gian Marco Berti's silver won in the mixed trap shooting.

With these medals, San Marino became the smallest country, by population, ever to win an Olympic medal.
