Paris 2024 Olympic champion Lydia Ko won her third third major title at the Women's British Open at St. Andrews on Sunday, 25 August.
It was the first major triumph in eight years for New Zealand’s golf superstar who held on for a two-shot victory.
Last year's winner Lilia Vu finished joint second alongside world number one Nelly Korda (USA), Ruoning Yin (People's Republic of China) and Jiyai Shin (Republic of Korea).
Vu’s costly miss near the end on the Old Course put Ko in pole position to secure her third major, hitting a birdie on the 18th to finish seven under par.
It caps the perfect month for the 27-year-old, who was crowned Olympic champion at Paris 2024 just weeks ago.
With a bronze and silver in previous Games, it saw her complete the medal set and become the most decorated golfer in Olympic history.
“This is pretty surreal,” she said, taking in her victory.
“Winning the gold medal in Paris was a dream, but this is almost too good to be true.
“To be holding this trophy right now is very special, I’m not really sure if it has sunk in yet. I feel very honoured to be the champion, it was so tough out there this week.”
Ko’s last major wins came in 2015 and 2016, winning the Evian Championship and Chevron Championship respectively.
