Reigning US national champion Amber Glenn completed victory at the ISU Challenger Series Lombardia Trophy 2024 in Bergamo, Italy on Saturday (14 September 2024).
Glenn led three-time world champion Sakamoto Kaori by just over two points following Friday's short program, but it was another American - Sarah Everhardt - who took second place on the day and overall.
Sakamoto opened with a double Axel in her first free skate of the new season to 'All That Jazz', and a fall on her closing triple loop cost her points and an earlier triple Lutz also received negative grades of execution. The Beijing 2022 bronze medallist posted 126.41 for a total of 199.94.
Georgia's 2023 European champion Anastasiia Gubanova was third in the free skate, but could not overtake the Japanese in the overall standings.
Skating to Audiomachine's 'I Will Find You', Glenn settled any pre-skate nerves with a fine triple Axel to start. And while her jumping in the second half of her routine was not as smooth, the 24-year-old did enough to record a second personal best score in consecutive days with 137.18. A big career-best total of 212.89 points signals what could be a breakout season for the skater who finished 10th at March's World Championships in Montreal.
Everhardt came desperately close to eclipsing her free skate personal best set at last month's Cranberry Cup, but her 132.77 was enough for her to break the 200-point barrier for the first time with a total of 201.90.
