Loh Kean Yew books Badminton Asia Championships 2023 quarter-final spot - results from Dubai

Former world badminton champion cruises through round of 16 in Dubai.

Loh Kean Yew made it safely into the quarter-finals of the Badminton Asia Championships 2023 with victory in Dubai on Thursday (27 April).

The Singaporean beat Bahaedeen Ahmad Alshannik of Jordan 21-14, 21-14 in 30 minutes in the men's singles round of 16.

Former world champion Loh, ranked number 7 in the current BWF rankings, had beaten India's Lakshya Sen in his opening round match, and will face Lee Cheuk Yiu in the last eight. Lee beat Shi Yu Qi in his round of 16 match.

Kenta Nishimoto was beaten by second seed Anthony Ginting 18-21, 17-21 in the pick of the Thursday evening games.

In the women's draw, world number one Akane Yamaguchi saw off Sung Shuo Yun, while second seed An Se Young, and India's PV Sindhu also won in straight games at Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Indoor Hall, Al Nasr Club, in the UAE.
