Malaysian badminton maestro Lee Zii Jia has shared his ambitions for the future.

Speaking with two young fans as part of a segment called ‘Badminton Buddy Chat’, hosted in collaboration between the Badminton World Federation and a tournament sponsor, Lee was asked by the duo about his “grand plans”.

He answered: “To become the best in the world and become the world champion.”

Currently seven in the world rankings, the 26-year-old shuttler has work to do if he is to achieve his aim but aspirations weren’t the only thing on the agenda throughout the conversation.

The two interviewers - Aden, 10 and Joey, 11 - also asked how they might become as good as Lee one day.

“I think the basics matter,” the Malaysian said. “As the saying goes, “Rome wasn’t built in a day”, you need to be persistent. You might meet difficulties while trying but never give up till the end.”

Lee is next expected to take to the court at the Kumamoto Masters, from 12-17 November.
