Lara Gut-Behrami seals Super G Crystal Globe at Val di Fassa
Federica Brignone was fastest at the World Cup race in Italy, but second-place was good enough to land Gut-Behrami the 2020/2021 Super G season trophy.
Following two downhill victories on Friday (26 Feb) and Saturday (27 Feb), the World Champion couldn't make it a hat-trick of race wins in Italy.
She was beaten by home hero Federica Brignone, who claimed her first World Cup win of the season in a time of 1:14:61.
But Swiss skier Gut-Behrami only needed to finish in the top 26 of the morning race, and comfortably did that by finishing second, to land the 2020/2021 Super G Crystal Globe trophy and also consolidate her lead in the overall standings.
Swiss world champion Corinne Suter was just behind in third in Italy. Her main focus remains the Crystal Globe in the downhill discipline, which Gut-Behrami is also still in the hunt for.
A disappointing run from Petra Vlhova saw the Slovakian finish 32nd on Sunday, meaning she has lost more ground to top-placed Gut-Behrami in the overall rankings.
There were several breaks in competition due to crashes, with Norway's Kajsa Vickhoff Lie and Rosina Schneeberger of Austria both suffering serious leg injuries and being air-lifted to hospital as 14 of the 57 racers failed to finish.
