16-year-old Kris Kim is swapping out his exam revision books for his golf clubs to make his PGA Tour debut on Thursday (2 May).
The teenage sensation is set to follow in the footsteps of his mother, Ji-Hyun Suh.
The young Brit will be headed to Texas for the PGA Tour's 2024 CJ Cup Byron Nelson where he will be one of 144 hopefuls.
But no matter what happens on the green, Kim is ready to take it in his stride.
“Whatever happens, it’s going to be super helpful for my future because I’ll gain so much experience,” he told the BBC.
“I know I’m still young and pretty much every week I learn a lesson, but this week is going to be a lot bigger.”
Ahead of what will be a monumental moment for the teenager, here are some things to know about Britain’s latest debutant…
Kris Kim: Son of LPGA Ji-Hyun Suh
Golfing runs in the Kim family.
Kris’s mother, Ji-Hyun Suh was a trailblazer who competed in the 1990s, beginning her own career at 13.
After joining the Republic of Korea national team, she turned professional in 1998.
Following the decision to call time on her career, a move to England for Ji-Hyun would see her become a teacher at a driving range.
Now her son is ready to tap into that knowledge, soaking up all the advice he can ahead of his first PGA Tour outing.
“I’ll definitely ask my mum for advice,” Kim said.
“It is going to be a very different environment and you don’t know how you will respond to it - she’ll help me deal with it.
“She’s my coach and we talk about everything from dealing with nerves, taking one shot at a time, leaving bad shots behind and keeping it simple right through to course strategy.”
Studying for GCSEs
At 16, the coming weeks will mark the time of year Kim will be sitting his GCSE exams.
That alone puts into perspective just how young this teen star is, knuckling down in his final year of high school.
While his classmates are in lessons or studying, Kim will be soaking up his debut in Texas.
But he’s determined to still hit the books, despite a hectic schedule keeping him on his toes.
“I am trying to revise, I promise!” he said.
“But it’s quite tough. My schedule is quite busy right now.”
A fan of Woods and McIlroy
Aside from his mother, there are two golfing greats in particular that Kim looks up to.
The youngster signed an equipment deal with one of the biggest names in the industry and couldn’t hide his excitement when he found out the duo he looks up to were joining too.
“I’m a huge Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy fan so when they signed I desperately wanted to use their clubs too!”
Kim will be hoping to tap into the winning mentality of these greats to make a splash in his debut this week.
