After claiming the top spot in the overall standings with her win in Levi, Finland, alpine skiing star Mikaela Shiffrin is ready to increase her lead on home snow at Killington, Vermont, the sole US stop of the women’s World Cup season.
The double Olympic champion, who grew up in Vermont's Burke Mountain Academy, is set to compete this weekend (27-28 November) on the Superstar course in both giant slalom and slalom races.
Having achieved five consecutive slalom victories in Killington, Shiffrin concluded last season's event in fifth place, with Sweden’s Anna Swenn Larson and Switzerland’s Wendy Holdener sharing the top honours. Lara Gut-Behrami won the giant slalom, with Shiffrin in 13th position.
This season, the five-time big crystal globe winner clinched her 89th World Cup win in the second slalom in Levi, following a fourth-place finish the previous day in the Lapland resort, and a sixth position in the opening giant slalom in Soelden, Austria.
With the cancellation of both opening speed events in Zermatt-Cervinia, Shiffrin currently leads the overall World Cup rankings with 190 points, maintaining a lead over fellow Olympic champions Petra Vlhova (160) and Sara Hector (145).
