Kenya’s Agnes Ngetich shattered the women-only world* 10km record with an impressive solo performance during the Transylvania 10km in Brasov, Romania, on Sunday (10 September).

The 22-year-old clocked in at 29:24, surpassing the previous mark of 30:01 set by the late Agnes Tirop in Herzogenaurach in 2021. This achievement makes Ngetich the third-fastest woman in history over this distance. Only Ethiopia’s Yalemzerf Yehualaw has run faster, in a mixed race in Castellon last year (29:14) and in Valencia this year (29:19).

Ngetich, who completed the first 5km in a blistering 14:25 (four seconds faster than the women-only world record over this distance), finished ahead of compatriot Catherine Reline (30:14), with Uganda’s Joy Cheptoyek (30:34) taking the third spot on the podium.

Weldon Langat secured a Kenyan double by winning the men’s race in 27:05.
