Ski jumper Kamil Stoch's passion for Liverpool FC 

Kamil Stoch is used to veering off the normal path.

The Polish ski jumper is a three-time Olympic champion, hopes to get a pilot’s license one day and is a fanatic Liverpool Football Club supporter.

He lists the English Premier League club’s manager Jurgen Klopp as his idol, has visited their stadium Anfield and even gets the team's push notifications on his mobile.

But what is this fascination with The Reds all about?

Mutual mental approach

"I don't know. It came from a situation where I was watching the leagues and I didn't have a favourite team, but I liked their style of play," the 31-year-old told TVP Sport.

"A battle-until-the-end type mentality. I later read up on their history and it made me like them even more."

After the Pole's World Cup victory in March a Norwegian TV station even gifted him a Liverpool shirt, signed by club legend Jamie Carragher.

The former defender also wrote: "Kamil Stoch - you'll never walk alone" - an ode to the song that rings out of the stands ubiquitously at the club's matches.

Ski jumping's Liverpool fan club?

Despite Stoch's unusual choice of football club, he's seemingly not short of company when watching his team's games when competing.

He posted this picture of himself and Norwegian PyeongChang 2018 gold medallist Daniel Andre Tande draped in Liverpool colours supporting their team from afar.

The picture is captioned: Two Reds brothers, C'mon Liverpool, C'mon you Reds!!!

What Klopp would do to be able to call upon the aerial abilities of these two jumpers in the penalty box!

Stoch was voted Polish Sports Personality of the Year in 2014 and 2017.

This is particularly impressive given he was up against the likes of Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski and double hammer throw Olympic champ Anita Wlodarczyk in both years.

The 2017 award teed Stoch up for further success as he became only the second jumper in history (after German-Austrian Sven Hannawald in 2002) to win all four competitions in a single Four Hills tournament last season. He had secured every accolade possible in ski jumping.

The two-time world champion then leaped to Olympic gold at PyeongChang 2018.

Bright future ahead

Stoch's accolades and affable nature has seen his Instagram following swell, while it is not unknown for approximately eight million of his compatriots to tune in and watch his performances.

At the World Cup in Ruka, Finland, Stoch came second on Saturday and third on Sunday.

With Liverpool currently sitting pretty in second place in the Premier League, it would seem that things are looking good for Stoch on and off the ski ramp this season.
