Achinta Sheuli wins silver as India’s campaign ends at Junior World Weightlifting
Sheuli won bronze in the standalone snatch category and his effort in the clean and jerk lifted him to a second-place finish overall.
Indian weightlifter Achinta Sheuli ended with the silver medal in the men’s 73kg category at the Junior World Weightlifting Championships 2021 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on Wednesday.
Achinta Sheuli, a 73kg national champion, lifted a total of 313 kg (141kg snatch and 172kg clean and jerk) to finish behind Indonesia’s Rizki Juniansyah, who lifted a world record 349kg (155kg snatch and 194kg clean and jerk) for the gold medal.
Juniansyah beat the previous overall record of 347kg set by USA’s Clarence Cummings Jr. The Indonesian also beat both the previous snatch record of 154kg and the clean and jerk record of 193kg.
Gevorg Serobian’s effort of 308kg (143kg snatch and 165kg clean and jerk) won the Russian the bronze medal.
In the snatch section, Achinta Sheuli lifted 137kg in his first attempt and then bettered that to 141kg in his second. That was enough to give him the bronze medal in the category.
Sheuli did relatively better in clean and jerk. He opted for 166kg in his first lift and then went 169kg in his second before lifting 172kg in his final attempt. This gave him the silver medal.
Sheuli’s medal brings an end to India’s campaign at the Junior World Weightlifting Championships. The other Indian in the fray, Jeremy Lalrinnunga finished fourth overall in the men’s 67kg category, though he managed to win silver in the snatch.
