It was the blend of youth and experience that brought People's Republic of China their gold in the 10m Air Pistol mixed team event today at Tokyo 2020 at the Asaka Shooting Range.

JIANG Ranxin, the 21-year old who made her Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020, joined up with veteran shooter PANG Wei, to bring ROC shooting team's Olympic gold bid to an end.

Ranxin and Pang held their nerves and won by 16 points, just two points ahead of ROC's Vitalina Batsarashkina and Artem Cernousov, who claimed silver.

Pang and Jiang are the first Olympic Games champion in 10m Air Pistol mixed team, one of the mixed-gender teams events to become part of the Olympic programme at Tokyo 2020.

"I am very happy. We made history. I am happy mixed team has been an Olympic event for the first time," Pang said.

"We are great partners, we have confidence in each other," he added.

The Chinese duo shook hands in celebration of their win and also hugged it out amid a small cheering crowd at the venue. In the victory ceremony, they also hung medals on each other.

"It was his idea. We think we needed team spirit in a mixed team event, so we wanted to show that with our action," Jiang told the press afterwards.

Both Pang and Jiang athletes have also secured bronze in individual 10m Air Pistol events during the weekend. This is Pang's fourth Olympic Games where he secured the second Olympic gold medal of his career.

Pang previously won gold in 10m Air Pistol in his home Games in Beijing 2008 and a bronze medal in the same event in Rio 2016.

Coming in third place and winning bronze today was Ukraine's Olena Kostevych and Oleh Omelchuk after winning 16-12 points against Serbia's Zorana Arunovic and Damir Mikec.
