Skateboarding is back where it all began for the Olympic Games.
The park Japan Skateboarding Championships will be held at Ariake Urban Sports Park in Tokyo this weekend, the site where the sport made its Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020. As part of the Games’ legacy program, Ariake has been fully renovated for the public opening earlier this month
Nagahara Yuro is the only Olympian among both the men’s and women’s field. Nagahara was eliminated in the men’s heats at the Paris 2024 Games, finishing 15th overall.
Two of Japan’s three female Olympians in park this summer - silver medallist Hiraki Cocona and Yosozumi Sakura, the Tokyo 2020 gold medallist - are out injured with a broken right ankle and broken wrist, respectively. The other, Kusaki Hinano, did not enter.
A total of 33 men and 19 women have been listed. With inclement weather forecast for the weekend, the competition schedule is subject to change.
