Akhil Sheoran won the bronze medal in the men’s 50m air rifle 3 positions shooting event at the ISSF World Cup Cairo 2024 on Wednesday as India finished their campaign at the top of the table with six medals.
India’s six medals at the first ISSF World Cup of the year included two gold, three silver and one bronze. Great Britain finished second on the medal table with two gold and one silver while Germany was third with two gold and three bronze medals.
On the final day of the Cairo meet, Akhil Sheoran managed 451.8 in the eight-man 45-shot final, after qualifying second with a score of 589.
The seasoned Jiri Privratsky of the Czech Republic won the gold medal with 462.9, while France’s two-time junior world champion Romain Aufrere won silver finishing with 460.5.
India’s Deepak Kumar finished 16th in the men’s 50m rifle 3P qualification with a score of 585 while Niraj Kumar shot 582 for the 24th spot.
In the women’s 50m 3P, none of the Indian shooters made the medal round. Priya Brijpal Singh shot 580 to finish 37th in the qualifiers while Shriyanka Sadangi was 18th with 584.
Indian shotgun shooters also blanked the skeet mixed team event. Munek Battula and Ganemat Sekhon were eighth with a combined tally of 139 out of 150 while Anant Jeet Singh Naruka and Raiza Dhillon were 11th with 138. Only the top four made the medal matches.
