The Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23 season is gradually reaching its conclusion.
After a closely-contested group stage, the six playoff teams were revealed. Mumbai City FC and Hyderabad FC directly qualified for the semi-finals after finishing first and second, respectively, in the ISL 2022-23 points table.
MCFC topped the group and clinched the ISL League Winners’ Shield with 46 points from 20 matches. HFC, meanwhile, finished behind the Islanders, four points behind.
However, unlike previous years where the top four football teams directly made the semis, the format has been revamped this year. ATK Mohun Bagan (3rd in the league stage points table), Bengaluru FC (4th), Kerala Blasters FC (5th) and Odisha FC (6th) made it to the knockout rounds, which decided who joined MCFC and HFC in the semis.
In the knockout round, Bengaluru FC ousted Kerala Blasters in an intense South Indian Derby. ATK Mohun Bagan beat Odisha FC for the other spot.
Teams in ISL 2022-23 semi-finals
ATK Mohun Bagan will face Hyderabad FC in the semi-finals, which will be played in a two-legged home and away format. Mumbai City FC, meanwhile, will go up against Bengaluru FC in their semi-final fixture.
The winners of the two semi-finals will meet in the ISL 2022-23 final on March 18 at the Fatorda Stadium in Margao, Goa.
