The Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23 final will see former champions Bengaluru FC face off against ATK Mohun Bagan at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda, Goa, on Saturday. The ATK Mohun Bagan vs Bengaluru FC final will bring down curtains on the ninth edition of the ISL, India’'s premier football competition which has been running since 2014.
Bengaluru FC, coached by Englishman Simon Grayson, will be playing their third final. The Blues have lost one (vs Chennaiyin FC in 2017-18) and won one (vs FC Goa in 2018-19) in their previous two finals.
Having finished fourth in the league standings with 34 points from 20 matches, Bengaluru FC had a difficult road to the final. In the play-offs, they overcame Kerala Blasters in what was a dramatic match. Then, in the semi-finals, the Sunil Chhetri-led side edged out table-toppers Mumbai City FC via a penalty-shoot (9-8) after the two teams were tied at 1-1 on aggregate after a two-legged affair.
ATK Mohun Bagan, meanwhile, finished third in the league standings with 34 points from 20 matches. They faced Odisha FC in the play-offs and emerged winners by a 2-0 margin. In the semis, the Kolkata side beat defending champions Hyderabad FC in a penalty-shootout after both legs ended goalless.
The Mariners have qualified for the ISL final for the second time in three seasons. They lost to Mumbai City FC 2-1 in the 2020-21 final at the Nehru Stadium in Goa.

Overall, out of six head-to-head matches between the two sides, ATK Mohun Bagan have won four games while Bengaluru FC have registered only a solitary win. One match ended in a draw.
This season, the two teams first met in December at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium where the Juan Ferrando-managed ATKMB won by a 1-0 scoreline. In the return leg at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium in Kolkata in February, BFC got the better of ATK Mohun Bagan 2-1.
