Kalla cruised to her third Olympic gold medal in the women's skiathlon on the first official day of competition, beating Marit Bjørgen (NOR), the most decorated female Winter Olympian of all time, followed by Krista Parmakoski (FIN).

Hundreds of spectators were on site to cheer on the women as they received their medals from Bach.

Earlier in the evening, Olympic fans were treated to a concert prior to watching the athletes receive their Olympic medals.

Afterwards, the festivities continued when R&B vocalist Insooni – the voice of the Olympic Torch Relay song Let Everyone Shine – performed for 40 minutes.

In addition to witnessing Winter Olympians receiving their hard-won medals, fans can easily access the Superstore, where they can purchase official goods after checking out the Olympic cauldron and trying VR technology.

The area also includes the Traditional Culture Pavilion, which showcases traditional Korean art and performances, as well as the Culture ICT Hall featuring modern art, cutting-edge 5G technology and Artificial Intelligence.

The PyeongChang Organising Committee has lined up a spectacular calendar of artistic and musical performances at the Medals Plaza. Visitors can also snap a selfie at the circle of national flagpoles, have a bite to eat at the Spectators' Cafeteria and visit the Partner showcasing.
