Indonesia Open 2023: Viktor Axelsen and Carolina Marin storm into semi-finals

The two Olympic champions are aiming to win their second BWF World Tour title this year, while top seed Yamaguchi Akane crashed out after losing to Ratchanok Itanon.

Badminton stars Viktor Axelsen and Carolina Marin have advanced to the semi-finals at the Indonesia Open 2023 on Friday (16 June).

29-year-old Axelsen deafeted world number eight Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei 21-5, 21-19. The Tokyo 2020 gold medallist will face India’s HS Prannoy who ousted Japan's Naraoka Kodai 21-18, 21-16.

2016 Olympic champion Marin won 21-18, 21-13 against world number three Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei to set up an encounter with  Ratchanok Itanon of Thailand. Itanon shocked world number one Yamaguchi Akane in three games 18-21, 25-23, 21-16.

World number two An Se Young (Republic of Korea) will meet world number four Chen Yu Fei (People’s Republic of China ) in the second semi-final.

The Indonesia Open is a Super 1000 event on the 2023 BWF World Tour, with players able to earn ranking points which count towards Paris 2024 qualification. The tournament concludes on Sunday 18 June.
