Indian badminton ace PV Sindhu and the country’s top doubles pair of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy are all set to miss the Indonesia Masters 2023, which starts in Jakarta, Indonesia, from Tuesday.

Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly, India’s top-ranked women’s doubles pair, and the men’s doubles pair of MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila will also sit out the third BWF World Tour event of the year.

Indian badminton players are coming off a disappointing outing at the India Open, where none made it past the second round.

Both HS Prannoy, the eighth seed and a former champion, and Lakshya Sen will face Japanese opponents in the opening round. While HS Prannoy will square off against Kanta Tsuneyama, Lakshya Sen’s first opponent will be the in-form Kodai Naraoka.

Saina Nehwal’s last BWF World Tour title came at the 2019 Indonesia Masters and the out-of-form 2012 Olympic medallist will hope to turn back the clock at Jakarta. Saina’s first hurdle in women’s singles will be Chinese Taipei’s Pai Yu Po.

Upcoming stars Malvika Bansod and Aakarshi Kashyap are also in the fray in women’s singles at the Indonesia Masters 2023.
