Indonesia bowed out of the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championship 2023, with a 3-1 quarter-final loss to the Republic of Korea on Friday, 17 February.
Things initially looked promising for Indonesia when Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo cruised to a 21-17, 21-16 opening men’s singles victory against Lee Yun Gyu.
But things were levelled shortly after as ROK’s Kim Ga Eun beat Putri Kusuma Wardani in a thrilling women’s singles match 21-17, 14-21, 21-12.
The ROK then went 2-1 up thanks to a stunning come-from-behind win for Kim Won Ho and Na Sung Seung over Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto, 16-21, 21-13, 21-16.
Indonesia’s hopes of staying in the best-of-five knockout match rested with Apriyani Rahayu and Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti in the women’s doubles.
However, they had no answer to the power and precision of Baek Ha Na and Lee So Hee, who ran out 21-14, 21-9 winners to give the ROK an unassailable 3-1 lead.
Thailand will join the Republic of Korea in the semi-finals thanks to their 3-2 win over Japan.
India take on Hong Kong in their quarter-final later today, followed by the People’s Republic of China against defending champions Malaysia.
