Tokyo-bound Indian shooters to participate in ISSF World Cup in Croatia
Indian shooters will now compete in two competitions in Croatia ahead of the Tokyo Olympics. They will start with the European championships in May.
Indian shooters, who have qualified for the Tokyo Olympics, will take part in the recently-announced International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup in Croatia before heading to Japan for the Summer Games.
On Friday, the ISSF declared that Croatia will host the last World Cup in Osijek before the Tokyo 2020 Games. It will be held from June 22 to July 3 and will include individual, mixed team and team competitions in rifle, pistol and shotgun Olympic events.
The combined World Cup replaces the one originally scheduled in the same period in Baku, Azerbaijan, which was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Indian shooters are scheduled to leave for Croatia on May 11 in a chartered flight for a training camp. They are slated to participate in the non-medal category at the European Championship, also in Osijek, from May 20 to June 6.
India are set to field their largest shooting contingent at the Olympics with 15 shooters.
The two competitions in Croatia will be welcomed by the shooters since they have been largely out of action since November 2019. Their only active competition came in March earlier this year at the ISSF World Cup in New Delhi.
