The much-awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction will take place at the Abady Al-Johar Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday and Monday.
The IPL 2025 auction will start at 3:00 PM Indian Standard Time (IST) and will be available on live streaming and telecast in India.
A total of 577 cricketers are set to go under the hammer at the mega T20 players’ auction, which is held once every three years. As many as 367 are Indians while 210 are overseas cricketers.
However, a maximum of 204 slots, including 70 for foreign players, will be filled at the IPL mega auction among the 10 cricket teams.
Punjab Kings have the biggest purse of ₹110.5 crore and the most vacant slots (23) after retaining only two uncapped players. Each team can have a maximum of 25 players in their squad and a minimum of 18.
Teams that retained fewer players from a maximum of six (five capped or two uncapped) will have more Right-to-Match (RTM) options and a larger purse at the mega auction.
Meanwhile, inaugural IPL T20 champions Rajasthan Royals, who have exhausted all of their RTM options and used up all six IPL retentions, have the lowest purse balance among the 10 teams with ₹41 crore.
Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders have also used all of their retentions but will go into the auctions with a purse of ₹51 crore.
Kolkata Knight Riders bought Australian speedster Mitchell Starc for a record ₹24.75 crore last year. He was instrumental in the knockouts and helped KKR win their third title but was not retained.
The highest reserve price for a player is ₹2 crore. A total of 81 players, including three Indian players who captained their sides last year - Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer - are listed at the highest value. The three experienced Indian players are expected to draw huge bids.
The IPL mega auctions will start with the bids on the 12 marquee players - Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Jos Buttler, Arshdeep Singh, Kagiso Rabada, Mitchell Starc, KL Rahul, Yuzvendra Chahal, Liam Livingstone, David Miller, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj.
Unsold players can re-enter the auction if franchises submit their names for accelerated rounds.
