Indian men's hockey team drops to 5th spot in FIH rankings

Belgium are at the top of the rankings, followed by Australia and Germany

The Indian men's hockey team dropped a place to fifth in the latest FIH World Rankings, announced on Monday.

Despite winning against Argentina in the two Pro League matches, India came down the ladder by one spot. In the first match, they won in the tie-breaker whereas in the second encounter, they outclassed their opponents 3-0.

India have accumulated 2223.458 points and are breathing heavily down the Netherlands who are on the fourth spot with 2232.556 points.

World Champions Belgium continue to have a stronghold at the top of the table with 2602.31 points. They are followed by Australia who are second with 2489.53 points.

Germany have risen to third place from the sixth spot after winning against Netherlands and Argentina away from home. They have 2253.48 points to their name.

In the women's ranking, India are in ninth place with 1643 points. Their ranking remains unchanged from the previous chart.

However, Netherlands have increased their advantage at the summit over Argentina by winning twice against Germany in the FIH Hockey Pro League. They lead the table with 2772.08 points.

Germany continue to be in the third position as they earned a draw and a win over the higher-ranked Argentina in early April. They have 2153.30 points.

Australia (2112.90) are on the fourth spot, followed by England (2052.38) and New Zealand (1920.84) respectively. Spain (1902.12) and Ireland (1683.08) are at the seventh and eighth spots respectively while China (1621.00) are a rung below India in the rankings.
