Indian hockey player and Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Rupinder Pal Singh and Simran Jyot Kler had their roka ceremony -- an official announcement of a relationship ahead of a wedding -- on Wednesday at a hotel in Amritsar.

Rupinder’s mother Sukhwinder Kaur had revealed that the two-time Olympian had vowed not to get married until he clinches a medal at the Summer Games.

The 30-year-old drag flicker helped India win a historic bronze medal at Tokyo 2020. Rupinder Pal Singh scored three goals in the tournament, including a penalty stroke in the third-place match against Germany.

It was India’s first Olympic medal in hockey in 41 years.

Dressed in traditional attire, Simran Jyot shared a photo from the roka ceremony with the caption, “written in the stars.”

Pictures from the ceremony were also shared by former hockey player and 2002 Asian Games silver medallist Jugraj Singh, the uncle of Simran Jyot, on social media.

“Many congratulations to dear Rupinderpal Singh, Olympic bronze medallist, and my niece Simranjot Kaler for roka ceremony. God bless you, stay happy and healthy always. Rab Rakha,” wrote Jugraj Singh.

Born in Faridkot, Punjab, Rupinder Pal Singh made his debut for India during the title-winning 2010 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup and has had a decorated career, with medals at the Asian Games, Asia Cup, Commonwealth Games and the Hockey World League.

Rupinder Pal Singh also took part in the Rio 2016 Olympics.
