Shubhankar Sharma misses cut at UK Championship golf
Sharma has been unable to make it to the weekend in four of his last five events on the European Tour.
Young Indian golfer Shubhankar Sharma endured another tough day at office on Friday after he was unable to make it past the second round at the UK Championship.
This was the fourth time in the last five events that Sharma has not been able to participate over the weekend since the European Tour resumed, with his best finish being tied-63rd at the Celtic Classic.
Shubhankar Sharma dealt with the cold conditions well at The Belfry Resort in Sutton Coldfield, England on the opening day, carding three birdies as he ended up scoring an even-par 72.
The second day proved to be much tougher.
The two-time European Tour winner began with a bogey on the second but got back on even terms with a birdie on the par-5 third.
Sharma then carded three bogeys in four holes at the end of the front nine to go into the latter part of the course at three-over.
After two pars, Sharma scored a double-bogey and bogey on the 12th and 13th holes.
Though Shubhankar Sharma carded a second birdie of the day on the par-5 17th, it was not enough to salvage the round, and he ended with a bogey on the final hole to score a six-over 78 for the round and an overall six-over 150.
The cut eventually came in at one-over 145, meaning that Shubhankar Sharma had missed the weekend rounds by five shots.
Sharma is scheduled to play at the Andalucia Masters in Spain next week.
Walters leads the way
Veteran South African golfer Justin Walters shot a one-under 71 in the second round to complement his stellar opening day and sit atop the leaderboard going into the weekend.
Walters had carded a bogey-free opening round, scoring an impressive six birdies and an eagle.
Though Walters’ second round was less eventful – he carded three birdies and two bogeys – he had done enough to enjoy a one-shot lead over Frenchman Benjamin Herbert.
English golfer Paul Waring’s bogey-free second round meant that he sat close behind with a seven-under, making for an engrossing battle over the weekend.
