Karishma Shirvoikar dropped from Indian football women’s squad for international friendlies
The experienced striker and the injured Bala Devi are the big names missing from the national team squad for the upcoming friendlies in the UAE and Bahrain.
Experienced striker Karishma Shirvoikar was the biggest name missing from the 23-member squad announced by the Indian women’s football team head coach Thomas Dennerby for its upcoming tour of the UAE and Bahrain.
The 20-year-old Karishma Shirvoikar has played 30 matches for the national team and has netted 31 goals. The forward was also a part of the Gokulam Kerala FC team that won the Indian Women’s League in the 2019-20 season.
Apart from Karishma Shirvoikar, the Rangers FC striker Bala Devi is another notable player missing from the Indian women’s football team. The 31-year-old has been sidelined due to an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury.
The Indian football team is scheduled to play four friendlies during its tour of the UAE and Bahrain. India will head to Dubai on September 30 to play matches against the UAE and Tunisia on October 2 and 4, respectively.
Meanwhile, matches against Bahrain (October 10) and Chinese Taipei (October 13) will be played in Manama, Bahrain.
The Indian women’s football team has been camping in Jamshedpur for over a month and the upcoming matches are expected to help gauge the team’s performance levels ahead of the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup.
