He might be just 24, but Tajikistan’s Komron Tursunov is a serial winner. With three league titles in the last three years, the winger is hoping to continue his hot run in the I-League with his new team TRAU FC.

“In the last three seasons, I have always won the title – first two seasons in my country and then the I-League with Mohun Bagan last season. I strongly feel that I can carry my champion’s luck here. I can be the lucky charm for TRAU FC,” Tursunov said in an interview with I-League media.

At FC Istiklol, the team with which the Tajik international won two league crowns, Komron Tursunov was in the shadows of the established names like Sheriddin Boboev, Dilshod Vasiev and Muhammadjon Rakhimov. But at Mohun Bagan last seaso, the 24-year-old proved his worth.

Komron Tursunov was a regular in the Kolkata side last season playing eight matches in all. He scored two goals and provided two assists.

It was also the period that saw him line-up against TRAU FC. And although the Imphal team lost both its matches against Mohun Bagan, Komron Tursunov believes that it made a solid impression nevertheless. That helped him make up his mind on the transfer.

“From my experience of the last season, I can say TRAU have a balanced team of experienced players as well as promising youngsters. As a senior player, my role would be crucial. I’m eager to take the challenge head-on,” said Tursunov, who has earned 15 caps for his country so far.

Having enjoyed the fans’ support throughout the season last year, it’s something that Komron Tursunov and the entire league will have to do without in the upcoming campaign. But with football going ahead in a secure environment, the Tajik feels it's a bargain worth making.

“The love shown towards me by the fans in Kolkata was amazing. I have seen that the supporters of TRAU are also very colourful and they cheer for you till the final whistle. We’ll miss them all this year,” Tursunov said.
