The Indian women’s recurve archery team will be looking to make the most of its final chance to bag Tokyo 2020 berths when they compete at the final qualifier for the Tokyo Olympics in Paris. The event runs from June 18 to 21.
India’s team for the final Olympic qualifiers in Paris include two-time Olympian Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat and Komalika Bari.
A total of 27 recurve women’s teams from different countries will be in action but only the top three teams will win quotas for the Tokyo Olympics.
The Indians are the favourites to win the event alongside the Mexican team of Aida Roman, Alejandra Valencia and Ana Vazquez.
At their last international meet in April - the Archery World Cup in Guatemala City - Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat and Komalika Bari beat the same Mexican trio to win the gold medal.
The Indian trio has completed a mandatory 10-day quarantine in the French capital ahead of the final archery Olympic qualifier.
India, so far, have confirmed four - three men’s and one women’s - archery berths for the upcoming Games in Tokyo.
While Deepika Kumari confirmed her spot in Japan by winning the individual quota at the continental qualifiers in 2019, Tarundeep Rai, Atanu Das and Pravin Jadhav clinched the men’s team quota spots after winning silver in the men’s recurve team event at the 2019 archery world championships.
The three men are eligible to participate in both team and individual recurve events in Tokyo.
The Indian women’s team’s fortunes, however, will depend on the final Olympic qualifier in Paris.
If they finish in the top three, Ankita Bhakat and Komalika Bari, who have already been named in India’s archery team for Tokyo, will be able to compete at Tokyo alongside Deepika and the men.
