Indian shooters continue to shine at Asian Shooting Championships
Rana, Cheema clinched medals in the 50m pistol event while skeet duo Bajwa and Sekhon finished second in the mixed team event.
India’s excellent showing at the 14th Asian Shooting Championships in Doha continued on the penultimate day of the competition, as shooters Gaurav Rana, Arjun Singh Cheema, Angad Vir Singh Bajwa and Ganemat Sekhon bagged medals.
They join compatriots Manu Bhaker, Sourabh Chaudhary, Tejaswini Sawant, Aishwarya Singh Tomar and Deepak Kumar as Indians shooters who won also bagged podium spots.
Double Delight
In the Men’s 50m Pistol, Rana took the silver medal, while Cheema won bronze. The duo were level on scores heading into the final round and trailed leader Daehun Park by three, making it a tense finale.
The Korean shooter scored 96 in the final round which was enough to win the gold medal, whereas Rana and Cheema managed 93 and 91 respectively, and had to settle for the second and third spot.
Monu Tomar, India’s third shooter in the event, placed 23rd with an overall score of 531.
Silver for skeet duo
India’s skeet team of Bajwa and Sekhon narrowly missed out on the top prize and settled for a silver in the mixed team event.
The duo scored 73 each in the qualification round and booked their berth in the gold match as the top seed. China’s Meng Wei and Ji Din scored 73 and 72 respectively to join the Indian duo in the battle for the top prize.
The Chinese team scored 36 while the Indians managed 33 in the gold medal match and it was Wei and Din who took the top honours.
