The 16-year-old Indian is the reigning Asian Games, Junior World Cup and ISSF Junior World men’s 10m air pistol champion and also holds the junior world record.

He lived up to that impressive pedigree by scoring 10.0 or more points with his last nine shots to finish with a total 244.2 points, leaving him 7.5 points clear of Republic of Korea’s Sung Yun-ho in second. Jason Solari of Switzerland completed the podium.

The gold was India’s sixth medal of Buenos Aires 2018 and the country’s fourth shooting medal, after Manu Bhaker’s gold in the women’s 10m air pistol and respective silvers for Sahu Tushar Mane and Mehuli Ghosh in the men’s and women’s 10m air rifle.

“I’m so happy to have won another medal for my country,” said the cool-headed Saurabh, who led the competition from start to finish. “We’re doing really well in shooting and we’re celebrating with the whole team. Now we’ve got the team events to look forward to.”

The shooting competition at the Parque Sarmiento has two days yet to run, with the 10m air rifle and pistol mixed international team competitions taking place on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 October respectively.
