The heavyweights of Indian badminton, including PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth, will feature at the Denmark Open 2021, which begins from October 19 at the Odense Sports Park.

Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu, who gave the Sudirman Cup as well as the Thomas and Uber Cup a miss, will take the court for the first time since winning the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics in August.

The world No. 7 PV Sindhu is seeded fourth at Denmark Open 2021 and alongside fellow Olympic medallist Saina Nehwal, ensures a strong Indian representation in the women's singles.

Saina Nehwal had to retire mid-match with an injury during the Uber Cup last week and will look to bounce back at the Denmark meet.

In the men’s singles, former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth will be up against Tokyo Olympian B Sai Praneeth in an all-Indian opening round clash. The two had participated in the Thomas Cup last week along with Sameer Verma, who will also be taking the court at the Denmark Open.

The men’s singles roster will be completed by former Asian medallist HS Prannoy, Parupalli Kashyap, Sourabh Verma and Laskhya Sen, who recently finished runners up at the Dutch Open 2021.

Reigning world champion Kento Momota of Japan and Tokyo Olympic gold medallist Viktor Axelsen from Denmark are the top two seeds in the men’s singles while China’s Chen Yu Fei, also a Tokyo 2020 champion, will be the No. 1 seed in the women’s singles.

In the men’s doubles, Tokyo Olympians Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy will lead India’s challenge while Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy will shoulder the responsibility in the women’s doubles.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponnappa will also compete in the mixed doubles.
