Figure skating pair Maia and Alex Shibutani will extend their break from the competitive circuit and will not compete in the upcoming season.

In a US Figure Skating press release, the ice dance siblings who won team and individual bronze at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympics shared that they are continuing to push themselves and are "healthier and stronger than we were after the Olympics."

The "ShibSibs", as they are fondly known, have been skating together for 15 years.

The three-time World Championship medallists have not competed since their medal haul at the Winter Olympic Games 2018 but have been keeping busy with shows and other media projects.

"We’ve continued to skate a lot, and we feel like we’ve benefited from some time away to create in different environments and focus on experiences that can help us grow.” - Alex Shibutani

The Shibutanis were the first sibling pair to step on an Olympic podium since France’s Isabelle and Paul Duchesnay won silver in 1992.
