Four Indian cricketers have made the ICC Men’s T20I Team of the Year 2023. Suryakumar Yadav, who made the cut for a second straight year, was named the captain of the side, the International Cricket Council announced on Monday.

The ICC Team of the Year recognises 11 outstanding individuals who have impressed throughout 2023, be it with the bat, the ball or their all-round exploits across the calendar year.

Besides Suryakumar, fellow batter Yashasvi Jaiswal and bowlers Ravi Bishnoi and Arshdeep Singh also made the men’s team.

The 33-year-old Suryakumar Yadav had a stellar 2023, which included two centuries in the shortest format of the game. He also led the Indian cricket team after Rohit Sharma took a break following the ODI World Cup.

Jaiswal, a left-handed opening batter, made his T20I debut in 2023 and even scored a century in India’s gold medal-winning campaign at the Asian Games in Hangzhou last year.

Leg-spinner Bishnoi, meanwhile, became the No. 1 bowler in the ICC T20 Bowling Rankings when the year ended. Bishnoi, too, was a member of the Asian Games team.

Left-arm pacer Singh also impressed in 2023 with a string of solid performances against Sri Lanka, New Zealand and the West Indies before heading for the Asian Games campaign in Hangzhou.

While four men made the cut in the men’s team, only one Indian made the XI in the women’s team.

A handy lower-order batter, Deepti Sharma’s economical bowling figures and four three-wicket hauls paved her way in the ICC Women’s T20I Team of the Year 2023.

Three of the four three-wicket hauls came during the Women's T20 World Cup in Cape Town in February, enabling the Indian women’s cricket team to reach the knockout stages of the tournament.
