The Ibrahim Moustafa 2023 wrestling tournament, this year’s second ranking series after the Zagreb Open, will be held in the Egyptian city of Alexandria from February 23 to 26.
Like the Zagreb Open, India will be fielding a rather inexperienced squad with top wrestlers like Bajrang Punia, Ravi Kumar Dahiya, Vinesh Phogat, Deepak Punia, Anshu Malik, Sangeeta Phogat and Sangita Mor all sitting out the meet in Egypt.
In the absence of the big names, India have named a young 27-member contingent - nine in men’s freestyle, eight in women’s and 10 in Greco-Roman - for the Ibrahim Moustafa 2023 wrestling series. Watch live streaming.
Freestyle wrestler Aman Sehrawat, an under-23 world champion who won the bronze medal in the men’s 57kg at Zagreb, won’t be on the flight to Alexandria but Greco Roman grappler Ashu, who clinched India’s only other medal, also a bronze, at Zagreb is in the entry list.
Bhateri (women’s 65kg), a junior world championships silver medallist, Sagar Jaglan (men’s 74kg), an under-20 worlds bronze medallist, and Sujeet (men’s 65kg) will be the other names to look out for in the Indian wrestling team to Alexandria.
