The Sol2023 Pacific Games take place in the Solomon Islands from 19 November to 2 December with Australia sending a record 72 athletes.

Olympic bronze medallists, archer Ryan Tyack and boxer Harry Garside lead the Aussies as they make their third appearance in the 17th edition of the multi-sport event.

The event sees 5000 athletes and officials come together to compete across 24 sports with direct quota spots for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on offer in archery and boxing.

How many times has Australia taken part in the Pacific Games?

Sol2023 is the 17th edition of the Pacific Games, but it is only the third time that Australia will participate in the event.

Australia and New Zealand were invited for the first time in 2015 in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, and again in 2019, when Samoa hosted the Oceanian continental Games.

The first edition of the Pacific Games took place in Fiji in 1963.

What is Australia’s biggest medal tally at the Pacific Games?

Australia returned home with 56 medals (33 gold, nine silver, 14 bronze) from the last Pacific Games in Samoa 2019 which is the country’s highest medal tally.

In taekwondo, the Aussies won all of the 15 events they contested including a clean sweep of women's individual golds.

In total, 42 athletes represented Australia across six different sports. A record 72 Australian athletes will take part in the 2023 Games. 

In 2015, the Australian team secured 47 medals in total and 17 gold on its Pacific Games debut.

Australia have won a total of 103 medals (50 golds) in their two Pacific Games participations.
